Walgreens began in 1901, with a drug store on the corner of Bowen Ave and Cottage Grove in Chicago, owned by Galesburg native Charles R. Walgreen, Sr. By 1913, Walgreens had grown to four stores on Chicago's South Side. It opened its fifth in 1915, and four more in 1916. By 1919, there were 20 stores in the chain. The 1920s were very successful years for Walgreens. 

Walgreens provides access to consumer goods and services, plus pharmacy, health and wellness services in the United States through its retail drugstores, Walgreens Health Services division, and Walgreens Health and Wellness division.  Walgreens runs several online stores, such as: www.beauty.com, drugstore.com and www.visiondirect.com. 

The Walgreen Company is the largest drug retailing chain in the United States. As of January 31, 2012, the company operated 8,300 stores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Walgreens headquarters are in the Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois.

Wal-Mart StoresInc., is an American multinational retail corporation that runs chains of large discount department stores and warehouse stores. The company is the world's second largest public corporation, according to the Fortune Global 500 list in 2013, the biggest private employer in the world with over two million employees, and is the largest retailer in the world. Walmart remains a family-owned business, as the company is controlled by the Walton family, who own over 50 percent of Walmart. It is also one of the world's most valuable companies.

The company was founded by Sam Walton in 1962, incorporated on October 31, 1969, and publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. It is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. Walmart is also the largest grocery retailer in the United States. In 2009, it generated 51 percent of its US$258 billion sales in the U.S. from grocery business. It also owns and operates the Sam's Club retail warehouses in North America. 

Walmart has 8,500 stores in 15 countries, under 55 different names. The company operates under the Walmart name in the United States, including the 50 states and Puerto Rico. 
Western Beef is a low-cost supermarket chain located mostly in the New York City metropolitan area and some parts of New Jersey. As of 2012, the chain operated 28 high volume warehouse style stores in the city and suburbs, including two stores that were later opened in Florida - Boca Raton in March 2009, and Pembroke Pines  in 2011.

Western Beef's business model has been to operate in ethnic, inner-city neighborhoods that have been abandoned by other supermarket chains. Its motto is "We know the neighborhood". Its logo is the words "Western Beef" with a cactus wearing a cowboy hat in place of the "t" in "Western. The company also operates five Junior's Food Outlet stores, four in Brooklyn, and one in Queens.

Western Beef has several store brands, including the Western Beef Brand, Western Selects (orange juice), and Cactus Club. They operate their own produce, grocery, and meat warehouses.


OUR BRANDS
Bravo is a Hispanic supermarket chain with locations in the northeastern and southeastern parts of the United States, mainly New York, New Jersey and South Florida. In the north, there are approximately 47 locations available for shopping, and in the south, Florida with 15 or more. It carries the Krasdale Foods brands as well as many of our top Caribbean and Latin American brands. 

The company's headquarters is located in New York. It  eventually launched the El Sabor de tu Pais ("the flavor of your country") advertsiing campaign. In the early 1990s many independently owned Bravo stores opened in New York City. Bravo is a mid to large size supermaket.
